Port Strike and Impact on Transport

Published 21 maj 2025

We would like to inform you that the Swedish Transport Workers’ Union (Transport) and Ports of Sweden have reached an agreement on a new Port and Stevedoring Collective Agreement. As a result, the previously announced notice of industrial action has been withdrawn, and no conflict will occur between these parties.

The Swedish Dockworkers’ Union has not yet signed any agreement and has therefore announced a full strike in all ports where they are represented, today, Wednesday 21 May from 12:00 to 18:00.
Further actions are planned as follows:
• Strike
• Overtime ban
• Ban on hiring and new recruitment
These actions will take effect from Thursday 22 May at 09:00 and will continue until Monday 26 May at 22:30. Staffing agencies involved in port operations will also be affected by solidarity strikes.

The notice from the Dockworkers’ Union applies to all Swedish ports. We assess
that our service via the Port of Gothenburg will be the most affected, and thus have the greatest impact on you as a customer.

We are currently awaiting updates from the shipping lines operating in the Port of Gothenburg regarding sailings and available capacity. If no agreement is reached with the Dockworkers’ Union, we expect significant disruptions to our service. Individual assessments and actions will be taken based on each specific situation.

To ensure the best possible solutions, we will maintain close and continuous communication with you as our customer.

In the event of a strike, there is a risk that our trailers will be stuck in both import and export ports. This may result in additional costs in the form of trailer and quay rental, as well as empty runs when return loading cannot be carried out as planned – costs that we unfortunately must pass on to our customers.

We continue to monitor the situation closely to be as well prepared as possible and to find alternative solutions where feasible.

Thank you for your understanding and continued trust. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your regular point of contact with us.

Kind regards,
NTEX Limited
