Strike and lockout in Swedish ports

Published 22 maj 2025

The ongoing conflict in Swedish ports continues, with strike and lockout actions taking place in ports where the Swedish Dockworkers’ Union is represented.

The greatest impact is expected on our customers’ transports via the Port of Gothenburg, for both import and export. There is a risk that trailers may be delayed or held in the ports during the strike and lockout periods. This may lead to increased costs, such as quay and trailer rental fees as well as empty runs, as return transports cannot be carried out according to the planned schedule.

All additional costs arising in connection with this – including but not limited to quay and trailer rental, empty runs, delay charges, or transshipments – will unfortunately need to be passed on to you as our customer.

Below are the scheduled strike and lockout periods:
Gothenburg RoRo Terminal
May 22 at 09:00 – May 26 at 22:30
June 1 at 16:00 – June 2 at 23:00
June 3 at 06:00 – 23:00
APM Terminals Gothenburg
May 25 at 22:00 – May 26 at 23:00
June 2 at 06:00 – 23:00

The shipping lines have announced the following planned sailings during week 21:
Ghent – Gothenburg: May 23
Gothenburg – Ghent: May 24
Zeebrugge – Gothenburg: May 23
Immingham – Gothenburg: May 24
Immingham – Gothenburg: May 25

Loading and unloading of the vessels will take longer due to limited capacity, and at this point we do not know when the cargo from these sailings will be available for delivery.

We are working proactively to minimize disruptions and will maintain close and continuous dialogue with you as our customer. Each individual case will be assessed separately and appropriate measures will be taken to find the best possible solution.

We are closely monitoring the situation and continuously evaluating alternative transport solutions. Should you have any questions regarding how this may affect your shipments, please do not hesitate to contact your regular NTEX representative.
