Updated Information about temporary extra costs as a result of the situation in Swedish ports
Published 30 juni 2025
A conflict has been ongoing for some time in Swedish ports where the Swedish Dockworkers’ Union is represented. This conflict, which has included both strikes and lockouts, has led to significantly increased production costs for our service.
As a result, we were forced to introduce a temporary extra charge equivalent to 20% of the total freight cost, which came into effect on Wednesday, May 28. We previously informed you about this. The extra charge applies to all shipments within our regular transport setup (loose trailers) between the United Kingdom/Ireland to Sweden, Norway and Finland.
We continue to see a major impact on our service. For example, the gate to Gothenburg RoRo was closed last Friday and remained closed until Sunday at 24:00. This has had significant consequences and resulted in rescheduling and the inability to operate according to our regular flows.
Given the current situation, which is entirely beyond our control and constitutes a force majeure, we foresee that it will persist. Therefore, the extra charge will continue to apply for loadings taking place during the current week (week 27).
We hope to be able to remove the strike surcharge for loadings during week 28 and onwards, provided that no further strike notices are issued. We will provide an update on the situation at the end of this week.
All special or customer-unique solutions required due to the current situation, such as altered routes, will be analysed and costed individually based on the specific setup.
We are working proactively to minimise disruptions and are maintaining close, continuous communication with you.
Each situation is assessed individually and we take the necessary measures to find the best possible solution.
If you have questions about how this affects your shipments, please contact your regular NTEX representative.
